How to Stay Safe Online

From Snapchat to Instagram, we all want to be connected. However, keeping yourself safe on the internet can be confusing. Some advice on staying safe on the internet and social media:

- Do not share passwords with friends or strangers

- Do not tag your home location

- Do not meet up with anyone you don't know without permission or notice to parents or guardians

- Make sure to stay on safe and secure websites

- Do not give out personal information, such as your address, school, or phone number to someone you don't know personally

Staying safe online does not only include yourself. If you or someone you know is bullying someone online, report it to a trusted adult or counselor. If you wouldn't say it in person, do not say it online.

We know that talking to friends is incredibly important, we do it too! However, even texting can get you into some deep water. Staying safe should be everyone's biggest concern. Use common sense and this document to help you stay informed with the appropriate uses of virtual communication. Use this sexting handbook  as a resource to stay safe and smart.
